The Massacre of Sept 7th 2007

...or Where in Evan Becomes a Blood Sucker
It started out as a perfectly lovely day. We had just returned home from shopping and the park. I was starting lunch for the three of us, and the children where happily playing with each other.
Suddenly I hear a scream and crying which is not uncommon in a house with a two year old and a one year old. I looked up to see that Miriam had apparently tripped while running in the hall. I walked over to help her up and that's when I saw it. Blood. Blood POURING from her mouth. Blood was already on the floor and running down her chin. I saw in a second we were dealing with more then a split lip. I grabbed my screaming baby and ran to the sink and the cold running water ten feet away. I tried to get her to spit in the sink but it was more that the blood poured out into the sink. Finally after about five minutes, the bleeding slowed and stopped. Miriam was still upset but calmer. I then surveyed the scene. Blood all over the sink. Blood on the counter. Blood on Miriam's top. Blood on Mommy's top AND pants. Blood on the floor with a droplet trail to the sink. And then the surprise.... blood all over EVAN'S mouth!! WHAT!!!
Yup, you guessed it. The little rascal LICKED her blood up off the floor!
We had a rough afternoon with Miriam hurting too much to sleep. She was unable to swallow without pain this afternoon/ evening so let saliva run out of her mouth. She mostly refused my efforts to get cold things in on her tongue and wouldn't swallow the tylenol. Supper was a bust too. She tried SO hard to eat her favorite meal of pizza but couldn't. We did get a few soft things down her and (praise God) some tylenol laced milk. She seems a bit better now but it could be a LONG night!
The weirdest thing of all is that she isn't talking. I knew she talked a lot, but seriously I didn't realize how QUIET my life would be if she wasn't talking!

Poor baby!

I could feel the trauma! There is nothing quite like experiencing the pain of your child and being unable totally relieve it...or even to explain it to them. Give her a hug from us.

Yuck Evan! Poor Miriam,

Yuck Evan! Poor Miriam, that really had to hurt.
