Miriam's birth certificate
Today we got a scan of Miriam's birth certificate. It lists us as the adoptive parents, with her name created by the usual Ethiopian formula: the first name is Tideg, which they gave her at the care center, but the middle name comes from her father's first name. So the full name on her birth certificate is Tideg Brian $%^&. Very odd. Her legal name will be changed to the name on this website after we get to the states. Anyway, here is the picture of her from the birth certificate, a "mugshot" of sorts.
The adoption agency rep called us before she emailed us the scan. Part of why she called was to warn us about Miriam's haircut--apparently the care center gives the babies a traditional Oromo haircut. Our MK friend who grew up in Ethiopia says even though it looks like what we would call a mohawk in the picture, it's probably a square patch of hair on top of her head. Apparently they shave the baby's head to minimize the baby's chances of getting lice or other nastiness, but they leave the square patch so the angels will have something to grab onto should the baby die and need to be taken to heaven.
It's less than a week before we leave, and a little more than two weeks before we get to hold our little daughter! :^)
