First Week of School Plus a Pool Party

by Dani

Forgive me one more back post here, this should have been written in mid-Aug...

We had a good first week of school as we eased into things. Without a doubt some of the biggest challenges have been keeping little people happy while working with the big ones. But my plan of having the older kids take turns playing with them as well as getting out some of the Tot School activities worked pretty well.

Dragonfly did puzzles and lil' Bug was using the button Snake. (Great fine motor activity there!)

We have switched to math on the computer which is working great of Butterfly.

And Cricket started cursive. He loves it and honestly has the neatest handwriting!

We ended the week with a visit from Uncle D and Aunt K and the cousins. We got to go swimming with them and everyone had a blast. Dragonfly just LOVES the water. It was a great reward for finishing the first week of school!

Two weeks into our new school year, we were so excited to get to go back to the beach this year. It had been two years since our last trip. Mimmi and Grandpa George went with us. As well as another couple we are friends with from church but they could only stay a few days.

We had a grand time. The weather was really great. Not too hot (only the high 80's) with a breeze the whole time. We didn't have any rain that effected us although a tropical storm/hurricane passing out at sea meant we did have rip current warnings for a few days.

The older kids spent a lot of time wave jumping on the ocean side of the island. Some days they had some serious waves to do it in.

They all practiced their swimming when we went to the sound side of the island. Butterfly and Cricket are getting pretty good at swimming underwater.

Mid-week and the last day we did some kite flying. Lil' Bug LOVES to fly kites. I think he seriously held the kite for 30 mins the second day.

There was some shell hunting and sand castle building and playing in the tide pools at low tide. . Cricket drew a boat and made me take pics of him. :)

There were lots of animal encounters from sea gull feeding to starfish to the butterfly that landed on Butterfly!

Miss Dragonfly was NOT happy about the sand at first. The first day she cried and would not step on it. By mid week she was walking on it and sitting on it. She loved to be held out in the calmer water on the sound side. By the end of the week she would head down the beach into the surf and say "bye-bye, Mommy!".

We even enjoyed just hanging out on the beach. Side note: the picture of my below was taken by Lil'Bug after he took my camera away from me. Pretty good pic for a 4.5 yr old, don'tcha think?

At the end of the day everyone felt like this.

We were all sad then our week was over, and we had to head back to reality. Good-bye Beach. We miss you!
