My little blog hiatus earlier in the year caused me to skip blogging about someone's birthday.
Lil'Bug turned 5 right before the end of the year! Don't ask me how he is 5 already, but he is! Since his birthday is so close to major holidays we decided to wait for his party until a few weeks into January. Waiting was hard on the little guy, but basically having 3 rounds of presents (birthday, Christmas, birthday party) made up for it. He asked for a " 'tuga cake" (Tortuga HQ) from the Wild Kratts show. The party was a movie party featuring one of his favorite flicks The LEGO Movie on a large screen. It was a big hit. :)
February saw the celebration of our first year with Little Miss Thing, AKA Dragonfly.
This baby girl has come a long, long way in that year! She is sweet and sassy and spunky and smart. She has most people completely wrapped around her little finger. Truly she has been a great addition to our family! I promise to write a more detailed update on her soon.
In March we celebrated 6 years with this young lady....
Ladybug is still our funny, silly, crazy DRAMA girl. But recent months have shown development in her strong leadership skills, her thoughtful kindness, and her servant heart. We are indeed blessed to have her in our family.
The problem with not blogging for a few months is that I still have things I meant to blog about, and they feel like they are hanging around over my head. So I thought I would throw them altogether in one or two long posts. So to tie up some loose ends....
In November, we celebrated Butterfly's family day by going to our local Children's museum. The kids had a ton of fun. It was Dragonfly's first time there. She did enjoy herself a lot.
The last picture cracks me up because it was taken as we were leaving. Daddy and the older kids were all in the huge kaleidoscope. Miss Dragonfly was ready for her nap and was NOT impressed. :)
November also saw Ladybug's 7th birthday and her party. She wanted a swimming party so that is what she got. :) This was extra special because while Butterfly and Cricket always have water parties with their summer birthday, Ladybug has never had something like this. It was a big hit and nice not to have to clean the house for me. :) She asked for a "Frozen" cake. Not my favorite cake I've done, but she was very happy.
Because we've been very busy, Dragonfly's birthday party was put off until this last Sunday. We had it at the park because she loves to slide, and it saved me having to get the house ready. :)
For her cake I made a Purple Kitty since she loves "kitties" and "Purple Cat" from Brown Bear, Brown Bear. She loved it!
Here are some pictures from the party.
Singing happy birthday (she wasn't sure what to make of that) and blowing out her candle.
Then there were presents to open. As you can see she loved everything! She got a bitty baby from Mimmi and got right down to business taking care of her. She also got a supergirl outfit with she wore like a royal cape with her crown. She paraded around the house like that pushing her dolly in her stroller. At times she had a groom (Cricket) to carry her horse and a porter (Lil'Bug) to carry her suitcase.
I have a feeling birthdays are now one of her favorite things! :)
Wow, summer is flying by so quickly! We've been so busy and I've not even had the chance to blog about it!
The second week of June was VBS #1 time. The boys went to one VBS where they had a blast and the older 2 girls when to another VBS. As a side note, the locations of these events were on opposite ends of town and, yes, started at the same time! That was a bit crazy, but we made it every morning! Anyway, the girls VBS wasn't really a VBS, it was more a musical intensive workshop. From 9 to 2 each day, they learned the songs, words, motions, and dances to a short musical. At the end of the week there was a 45 minute production for families to see what the kids had learned and done. Butterfly had a solo and was in a dance. Ladybug was also in a dance. Then Butterfly also played a sailor in the story of Jonah while Ladybug was one of the people mocking Noah. They both did a great job and, mostly, enjoyed it.
Here are a few pictures from the performance.
That week was also birthday week with both Butterfly and Cricket having birthdays. We had their big, joint, water birthday party that Saturday. So while all the kids were gone at VBS, I was busy making cakes. This year Cricket wanted Batman, and Butterfly wanted Ethiopian Girl. I had a lot of fun with these cakes once I figured out how I wanted to do Ethiopian Girl. I'm better at copying cakes then designing them all on my own, but since Butterfly was happy I guess I pulled it off!
After another week off to just chill, we had VBS round 2. This time at least all 4 older kids went to the same church. Having them all gone during this time was helpful because Dragonfly had some Doctor appointments and evals by OT and PT as well as visits from her Early Interventionist. We had some very positive news including that Dragonfly is now all caught up on her vaccinations (YAY!!), and she will be getting OT and PT twice a week. I plan to wrote more on her therapies in a later post.
We ended the month of June by spending a week with Mimmi on the farm. It wasn't our normal week visiting since Mimmi is having back issues and unable to run all over the place like we usually do. Still, the kids love spending time with Mimmi, and we were able to do a trip to Chuck E Cheese. Alas I didn't get any pictures!
Another one of those late posts that I've been meaning to write is to share about Ladybug and Lil' Bug's birthday party. Since both have birthdays close to the holidays, we gave them a joint party early in December. Ladybug ask for a party featuring her superhero alter ego Khocolate Girl. Lil'Bug isn't old enough to care really and since he loves anything with wheel I went with a racetrack. Here are a few pictures from the party and their cakes.
