End Of Year Activities (2014)

by Dani

One most post in the spirit of tying up loose ends from 2014....

December sees a lot of programs and activities for the kids.

American Heritage Girls have their awards ceremony. Butterfly got a few new badges. But the big deal was Ladybug getting her Joining Award. She was very proud.

The church children's choir had their annual Christmas show. Butterfly had a solo and both girls had some lines. I didn't get many pictures because the fog machine was so heavy they just didn't turn out well. It was a supper cute and fun production however.

And there was also the dance production for Christmas. The studio does the same Christmas production every year. It's really wonderful to watch each time. This year Butterfly danced in both show in 2 different numbers one for ballet and one for hiphop. Ladybug only danced in one show but was in two numbers as well, one for ballet and one for jazz.

The girls in their ballet costumes.

I didn't get many pictures from Ladybug's dances and none that turned out very well, but she was supper cute and did a great job.

Butterfly I got a lot more pictures of especially her ballet dance. I didn't get many good ones from her hip hop dance since she was toward the back and there was a big group on stage.

Some November 2014 Loose Ends

by Dani

The problem with not blogging for a few months is that I still have things I meant to blog about, and they feel like they are hanging around over my head. So I thought I would throw them altogether in one or two  long posts. So to tie up some loose ends....

In November, we celebrated Butterfly's family day by going to our local Children's museum. The kids had a ton of fun. It was Dragonfly's first time there. She did enjoy herself a lot.

The last picture cracks me up because it was taken as we were leaving. Daddy and the older kids were all in the huge kaleidoscope. Miss Dragonfly was ready for her nap and was NOT impressed. :)

November also saw Ladybug's 7th birthday and her party. She wanted a swimming party so that is what she got. :) This was extra special because while Butterfly and Cricket always have water parties with their summer birthday, Ladybug has never had something like this. It was a big hit and nice not to have to clean the house for me. :) She asked for a "Frozen" cake. Not my favorite cake I've done, but she was very happy.

How the Summer Ended

by Dani

I have no idea where the summer went. It literally whizzed by me in rapid fire! We had so much going on I could barely keep up with it to say nothing of blogging about it. So, well, sorry but here is another quick summary post covering our July and early August.

It was a busy month in part due to all the medical appointments. Dragonfly not only started with her OT (twice a week) and Early interventionist (every other week) but had 2 doctor appointments. The older 4 kids all went to the dentist and Ladybug went back to have her 6 yr old molars sealed. Cricket and Butterfly had their annual physical. And Lil' Bug saw his cardiologist and audiologist (twice). All this medical stuff and therapy went really well.

Mimmi spent most of the month with us which the kids loved. Dragonfly really enjoyed sitting with Mimmi.

In the middle of it, the older three kids went with the church junior youth group to a local day camp. They had a great time. Lots of water play and a ropes course and some hiking.

We found time to made a trip to the splash pad. It was Dragonfly's first time and she was a fan!

There is a playground at the splash pad which the kids like to play on while drying off. Lil' Bug was showing his climbing skills. Miss Ladybug is working hard to be able to do the monkey bars. She got half way across one time but I missed it.

We also made a couple of trips to our favorite little creek. As always the kids had a blast including Miss Dragonfly.

We finished off the summer in the first week of Aug with one more Dr appointment and a dentist visit for Dragonfly. Poor Dragonfly did not get good news at the dentist. She will be getting 11 (!!!) crowns this month. Obviously she is too little to do that kind of work in the office so she will need to go to the hospital to be sedated.

June In Review

by Dani

Wow, summer is flying by so quickly! We've been so busy and I've not even had the chance to blog about it!

After Memorial Day at Grandma's and the end of school (YAY!), we took one week off and just chilled around the house. But that didn't last long!

The second week of June was VBS #1 time. The boys went to one VBS where they had a blast and the older 2 girls when to another VBS. As a side note, the locations of these events were on opposite ends of town and, yes, started at the same time! That was a bit crazy, but we made it every morning! Anyway, the girls VBS wasn't really a VBS, it was more a musical intensive workshop. From 9 to 2 each day, they learned the songs, words, motions, and dances to a short musical. At the end of the week there was a 45 minute production for families to see what the kids had learned and done. Butterfly had a solo and was in a dance. Ladybug was also in a dance. Then Butterfly also played a sailor in the story of Jonah while Ladybug was one of the people mocking Noah. They both did a great job and, mostly, enjoyed it.

Here are a few pictures from the performance.

That week was also birthday week with both Butterfly and Cricket having birthdays. We had their big, joint, water birthday party that Saturday. So while all the kids were gone at VBS, I was busy making cakes. This year Cricket wanted Batman, and Butterfly wanted Ethiopian Girl. I had a lot of fun with these cakes once I figured out how I wanted to do Ethiopian Girl. I'm better at copying cakes then designing them all on my own, but since Butterfly was happy I guess I pulled it off!

After another week off to just chill, we had VBS round 2. This time at least all 4 older kids went to the same church. Having them all gone during this time was helpful because Dragonfly had some Doctor appointments and evals by OT and PT as well as visits from her Early Interventionist. We had some very positive news including that Dragonfly is now all caught up on her vaccinations (YAY!!), and she will be getting OT and PT twice a week. I plan to wrote more on her therapies in a later post.

We ended the month of June by spending a week with Mimmi on the farm. It wasn't our normal week visiting since Mimmi is having back issues and unable to run all over the place like we usually do. Still, the kids love spending time with Mimmi, and we were able to do a trip to Chuck E Cheese. Alas I didn't get any pictures!
