Adventures in My Father's World: Week 1

by Dani

Well after our wonderful week at the beach, this week we dove right into our first  week of Adventures.

For Bible, the focus was on names and how special names are since we will be spending the year looking at the names of Jesus. We looked at each child's name and it's meaning. I wrote each child a letter explaining why we choose the names we did and why each name was special to us. The kids LOVED this! I was surprised at how very special it was to each of them. We also made cookies and wrote the children's names on them in icing..... which they also loved!

For English we started with a handwriting review and our spelling curriculum for Butterfly. I held off starting the phonics part of 1st grade for Cricket until near the end of the week just to ease us into it all.

For Math, I started with review for both kids. Butterfly really needs to work on addition and subtraction facts. This a weakness of her's and she hates to practice.

In history this week we learned about the Pledge of Allegiance as well as did a quick overview of both the US and World maps. We also spent some time learning about Leif Ericson and the Viking explorations of North America.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures from this week (I PROMISE to do better next week!!!) so I'll leave you with a pic of my Crazy Crew :)
