Another week gone
Submitted by danielle on October 24, 2008 - 10:11pm.Another Friday come and gone, and other week is history without my phone ringing... well at least without it ringing with the *right* phone call. 22 months of waiting, and I'm really starting to feel it. I fear my patience is limited. Too much longer and I'm going to need a padded room.....
7 Random Things...
Submitted by danielle on October 22, 2008 - 4:53pm.I've been tagged by my friend Sarah to share 7 random things about myself. So here goes.
1.) I "met" my husband in July 2001... we met online. :)
2.) I started reading the Harry Potter series years ago after I received one of those radical conservative emails about how "evil" the series is. I basically went right out and bought the first book and read it! Yeah, I'm kind of like that sometimes....
3.) I have an incredible memory. I remember many things from my first 2-3 years of life. I even have a memory from when I was 2 months old. It runs in my family... my mother also remembers things from her first year of life.
4.) In my professional life, I have had the privilege of giving many little human beings their very first bath. I have also given far to many their only bath. And, yes, that was a privilege too.
5.) I wasn't allowed to go to the movies as a child. I think I was 21 the first time I stepped into a movie theater.
6.) I'm addicted to "LOST". Yeah, scary, I know.
7.) I'm a serious name nerd. Brian says that I'm part of the name Amish. :) I disagree, but if you've named your little girl Madisyn or Kennedee don't ask me what I think of the "name"!
So I'm suppose to "tag" seven other bloggers. But honestly, I'm not sure that seven people who have blogs and have not already been tagged actually read my blog. Heck, I'm not sure seven people read my blog! So I guess I'll tag Ruth, Spark, and Jen cause I know they read sometimes and haven't done this yet. And if you're a lurker and have never commented... consider yourself tagged! (How's that for punishment?? Well, if you exist....)
Milestone of the Heart
Submitted by danielle on October 11, 2008 - 7:39pm.Evan reached another milestone tonight. One that touches close to a mother's heart. Tonight my son said "I love you, Momma" for the very first time. I love you too, baby boy.
The Library Brat
Submitted by danielle on October 9, 2008 - 1:17pm.Today was a very frustrating day at story time. Or should I say after story time. We always stay awhile. I look for books both for fun and for preschool and the kids play with the toys. In the past there have been times another kid might grab a train or lego from one of mine or Miriam might do the same to another kid, but parents have always been close and the incident was a one time expression of normal preschool/toddler play. Today, however, was different. We had our first run in with the Library Brat also know as the play ground bully. For whatever reason she targeted Miriam. It started innocently enough. Miriam had attached to a book she found (this usually happens) and was carrying it around. All of a sudden Miriam came running to me sobbing her heart out, this little girl had her book. At the time, I thought Miriam had laid it down and the other girl picked it up. In any case, the mother was near by and when the little girl admitted taking the book, she made her give it back. Well, 15-20 minutes pass, Miriam is happily playing with the trains, when the little Brat moves in for her revenge. She would wait until Miriam was across from me and then would run up and knock all of Miriam's trains off the track. She wasn't taking them to play with them, she was just purposefully grabbing them and throwing them to mess with Miriam. Now Miriam *IS* a bit of a Drama Princess so she would scream when The Brat did this. I hushed her and helped her pick her trains back up. Well, this happened no less then 5 times. The second to last time, The Brat ran in grabbing trains and throwing them and as Miriam screamed "stop", she grabbed one out of Miriam's hand and throw it across the play area. Miriam was at the end of her patience, so she pushed The Brat. Of course, I stepped in to stop Miriam from really laying her out like she deserved. As I helped Miriam pick up her trains, I did something I've never done before... indirectly lecture someone else's child while talking to mine! "Miriam you can't push other people, EVEN IF THEY'RE MEAN and THROW YOUR TRAINS ON THE GROUND!!" You get the idea. All this time, Library Brat's mother was too busy talking to her friend to pay attention to her Brat's actions. Finally, on the last attack, Miriam screamed so loud that Mommy Dearest couldn't ignore The Brat anymore. She swoops in with the "oh, is MacKayLynnion taking trains?" routine, I was too mad to say the expected nice, "Oh, she's fine! Miriam, give little MacKayLynnion some of your trains." And since I'm too polite to say, "Would you keep your BRAT from attacking my daughter!!" I said nothing at all!
Well, that explains it!
Submitted by danielle on October 7, 2008 - 10:34am.So little dude has been uncharacteristically grumpy for the last week or so, acting out and getting more than his fair share of timeouts. He has also taken to running when I call him. Hmmm, need to nip that in the bud! Anyway, I think I found the reason for the grumpiness this AM... he is cutting both lower two year old molars. OUCH!!
E-G-G-S
Submitted by danielle on October 4, 2008 - 10:31pm.Miriam did it. She read her first word today!! Brian wrote "eggs" on a piece of paper, held it up, and ask, "what does this say?" She immediately answered, "eh-guh-guh-sssss". Brian said, "put it together." And she said, "eh-guhguhsss...EGGS!!!
I'm so proud!!
A Crazy Week
Submitted by danielle on October 1, 2008 - 9:59pm.What a crazy week this has been. Saturday we had a get together with our local Guatemala Adoption group at the park. It was a small group this time, but nice to see everyone.
Then Sunday I got sick. Really fast. With flu like symptoms; sore throat, head ache, fever, chills, aches. UGGGGG. Monday was NOT fun. I was hitting the Tylenol trying to stay ahead of the fever long enough to keep up with the kids. Lets just say I heart PBS!! But even an unending supply of TV didn't tempt my crazy duo for long and by 11 they were wreaking the house while I lay on the couch under blankets. Thank God they still take naps! But I'm better now except for a nagging sore throat when I eat certain things.
Today is a good day in another way. Today our adoption is OFF HOLD!! WOOOHOO!! Really, I wasn't sure it would ever happen, but it has. Now we get to wait again but this time it is for a referral; at least we are back in line. :)
